Dutchman's Invention: The 3 In One Electric Treadmill Bike

One of the latest cycling innovations, the electric walking bike, has come to the United States. Bruin Bergmeester, the inventor from Europe, custom built the walking bike in his home on evenings and weekends. After sitting down inside at work all day, he wanted to find a way to get outside into the fresh air and get beneficial exercise at the same time. So he found a way to combined a treadmill with a bicycle for practical outdoor exercise. The first two-wheeled electric treadmill, called the Lopifit, is available in the Netherlands, the Middle East and now, the United States.

With The Electric Assist, It Takes No More
Effort To Walk Than A "Walk In The Park"
The Lopifit's electric motor has a maximum range of 55 km or 34 miles with a display bar to show the battery status. According to the website: The Lopifit is a totally new way of moving. With the electric assist, it takes no more effort to walk than a "walk in the park". The electric assist in combination with the adjustable multi speed gears is boosting your walking pace up to the speed of a regular bike.

The Lopifit comes equiped with an advanced Shimano Nexis transmission, LED lighting, a powerful Quantum electric motor and a convenient luggage carrier. It is built with a strong steel frame and is available in six colors.(Black, Royal Blue, Orange, Fire Engine Red, Silver, and White).

Bruin Bergmeester:"Lopifit started as a small
idea when I was training in the Gym. How can
I use the treadmill outdoors? What about a
treadmill on wheels? So from my living room
I started to make my first Lopifit and took my
exercise outdoors. Even my wife loves it!
When you are walking on the Lopifit you push the treadmill backwards with your feet. A sensor registers the movement of the treadmill and gives a signal to an electric device which will activate the motor. The motor now supports you to continue the walking movement. Using the brake will shut off the motor immediately. If you are going downhill, a free wheel function is activated.

Like it or not, the Lopifit is doing quite well for itself. If the Lopifit fits into your lifestyle, you can find it in one of these three world locations. Check out the Lopifit on the website closest to you.

Schwinn - From World Leader To Bankruptcy

The Schwinn Empire came about as the result of one man's dream to introduce to the world a quality product created under a well planned strategy that would knock the socks off their competitors. Ignaz Schwinn, a German immigrant who came to America in 1891, had the desire to be the best and would not accept anything less.

Four years later in 1895, Ignaz Schwinn teamed up with Adolf Arnold, a member of a successfull meatpacking and banking family. Together, they formed the "Arnold, Schwinn & Company." Their focus was to produce a bicycle that was safe, dependable and easier to operate than the current bikes on the road.

In 1896 there were some 300 bicycle companies in the United States. The bicycles of that day had a way to go to be seriously accepted by the overall population. Early bicycles up to the late 1800's were riding on hard rubber tires and were hard to operate. And with prices ranging from $100 to $125, they were not easily affordable to the average Joe.

As the turn of the 20th century was approaching, there was a growing market for dependable and affordable transportation. The world was changing and new inventions were popping up everywhere. Some were hot and others were flops.

Ford's Assembly Line-Model T
The biggest contender in the early 1900's was Henry Ford, the father of the assembly line. His success in the automobile industry was an example and an inspiration to Schwinn. Schwinn sought endlessly to produce bicycles that were innovative, dependable, and affordable.

Exercise Your Brain

Sharpen Your Intellect

We all know that regular daily exercise is a great way to take care of ourselves. We may choose to utilize exercise equipment, such as a Treadmill, Recumbent Bike or maybe the Total Gym. We could go for a walk, jog or ride a bike. Our reward is a healthier, stronger, more physically fit body. And that is a great accomplishment! Just like our body, our brain needs to exercise also.

I have had little lapses in memory from time to time and I think it would be safe to say you have also. Things like not remembering a familiar PIN for your bank account that you always use, forgetting someone’s name or missing an appointment, just to name a few. Most of the time it’s due to a lot going on in your brain. You have so much on your mind that you’re stressed out. Or maybe you didn’t concentrate enough on what it was you were supposed to remember.

Research shows that brainpower can increase with mental activities in seniors. Aging does not mean automatically losing mental capacity. The National Institute of Aging has conducted a series of tests that prove most dramatic memory loss occurs around age 70, if it occurs at all. Even though memory may fade with time, thinking ability remains strong. Vocabulary and reasoning skills often improve with age.

Fitness: How To Ensure A Healthy Heart

Achieving good health consist of a proper diet and a well planned exercise program. Diet alone will not give optimum results, nor will exercise without proper diet. There needs to be a balance of the two. When it comes to exercise there also needs to be a balance between strength training and cardiovascular fitness.

Building muscle and sixpack abs takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but for overall good health, having a cardio workout plan is crucial. Having a regular strength training program is essential for building muscle and increasing strength. It is important to have a routine that hits all the major muscle groups and targets each specific area.

Strength training alone will not ensure a healthy heart. When considering the steps to take in our regimen for strength training and body building, we should also include cardio workouts for overall health, especially for the heart and lungs.

Cardiovascular fitness is a necessary part of an exercise plan directed at improving overall health and fitness. Increasing cardiovascular exercises improves muscular endurance, permitting the body to withstand activities over a length of time by supplying oxygen rich blood to the heart, lungs and vascular system.

Can You Reduce Cellulite Through Exercise?

Cellulite is fat underneath the skin that becomes unstable as muscle decreases. Although it is unsightly, it is harmless. Cellulite is not caused by weight problems. Thin people can have it also. Cellulite also seems to be more common with lighter color skin.

Other factors that may contribute to cellulite are:
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Dehydration
  • Inactivity
  • Slow metabolism
  • Hormone changes
  • Fad diets

Women lose about half a pound of muscle per year. Many women have desk jobs and spend a large part of the day sitting and not using their muscles. As a result, most of what they lose is on their upper thighs and dairy air.

When they lose muscle in their hips and thighs, the overlaying layer of fat doesn't have much of a foundation, so it starts to get an uneven bulge like cottage cheese.

Even the fittest athletes, who regularly exercise still have ugly cellulite. Those lumpy, unattractive cottage-cheese thighs affect a large majority of women. So what can be done to decrease the awful appearance of cellulite?

There are a lot of products and treatments that claim to eliminate cellulite on thighs and buttocks. But there is not much evidence that shows that many of them are successful or for any length of time.

Through proper exercise one can help reduce the appearance of those tell-tale dimples. Cellulite is fat, so calorie-burning activities and the right nutrition can make your skin look smoother. On the other hand, weight gain adds to the unsightly appearance of cellulite. Strength training can play a major role to tone muscle and get the firm foundation back.

In Wayne Westcott's book, "No More Cellulite", Westcott recommends moves that target your hips, quads, and hamstrings, but says not to ignore your other muscles. "Since all strength exercises boost your metabolic rate, they'll decrease fat too."

Swim For Good Health

Summer is time to get outside and ride a bike, play ball, go on a hike, but what do you do on those extremely hot days? If you enjoy the outdoors for your regular fitness activities as I do, those hot summer days can put a damper on your quest for fun and good health. Doing too much out in the hot sun is also very dangerous. Extreme heat can cause dehydration, bring on a heat stroke or even become fatal. Going for a swim is a great alternative.

Swimming has many benefits that contribute to your overall good health. The heart and lungs can benefit from a bout of swimming and it can be a good cardio workout. It can serve as a cross-training element to your regular workouts. If you are a runner in training, swimming is a good activity that gets your heart rate up and takes some of the impact stress off your body. You can also nurse a knee or ankle injury back to health as you enjoy water fun and activity without putting undo strain on the injury.

Regular swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness. Before a land workout, you can use the pool for a warm-up session. Swimming with increasing effort to gradually elevate your heart rate and stimulate your muscle activity is easily accomplished in the water. After a land workout, swimming a few laps can help you cool down, move blood through your muscles to help them recover, and help you relax.

Shower immediately after swimming. Otherwise the chlorine from the pool water will dry out your skin and cause it to crack, which will make you more susceptible to infection. After a day in the pool, a nice shower or warm bath will make you feel super clean and refreshed and prepare you for a comfortable night sleep.

Quit Smoking With Exercise

Who wants to quit smoking? I do I do! If it were only that easy. Smoking is something that many people enjoy doing. It's relaxing and soothing and takes the edge off of stressful situations. The truth is, it's an addiction. Once we're hooked, our bodies constantly crave it. We need it. It's appealing to us. How can we quit when we need and want it so badly?

You have tried everything to quit smoking. You've gone cold turkey. You've undergone hypnosis. You've tried chewing gum. You even tried acupuncture, but to no avail. Don't give up just yet. The best help so far may be found at your local gym, your local park or even in your own backyard.

What if smoking lost its' appeal? If the attractiveness were lost, maybe we could quit. It has been reported by researchers from the University of Exeter (A public research university located in England) that a bout of exercise for 10 to 15 minutes can reduce the desire to smoke. They found that getting out and exercising can be an extremely effective tool in reducing someone’s desire to smoke as it seems to minimize smoking’s attractiveness and appeal after exercise. For some reason, exercise stimulates a greater production of a chemical in the brain called endorphins, which helps us to feel happy and content.

Have you considered Electronic Cigarettes?

In the meantime, as difficult as exercise may be, as little as 10 to 15 minutes of moderate intensity activity can really help reduce cravings. Try it for yourself and see if it works for you. Who knows, you may learn to love to exercise so much that it becomes the beginning of a new and healthier you. What have you got to lose but a nasty habit.

Fitness For Busy People

Being health conscious in everything we do can go a long way in our personal strive for a healthy body. There are many ways that we can promote good health and fitness throughout our everyday busy schedules. Our days consist of numerous duties and responsibilities. We have children to care for and chores at home that need to be done. Full time jobs with a lot of hours and overtime doesn't leave much time, if any, for exercise regimens or going to the gym. At our jobs we can incorporate smart exercise fundamentals as we work.

As laborers, being smart on how you perform your various physical activities can give you some of the benefits of working out at home or at the gym. It will take a little time and creativity to mix a workable fitness program into your daily activities but the reward is a healthier body, more energy, and a better self esteem.

Before you get to work, make some simple changes that increase activity like avoiding the elevator and taking the stairs. Ride a bike to work if you can. Park at the far end of the lot and walk a little more(as long as it is safe to do so). If your job is not too far, you can walk or jog to work.

When working at a desk, try to get up and move around to keep the heart pumping. Take a walk on your lunch break. Get away from the desk for a while. Throw in some stretches two or three times a day while at your desk. The point is to get as much exercise as you can without having to schedule a separate time for it.

If you have a more physical job, you can add some strength training to your exercise plan when lifting items at work. Remember to always lift with your knees to protect your back and prevent injury. One thing I do at work is load the 16 pound bags of ice. I drop the bags to break up the ice and I do squats as I lift each bag of ice and place it in the display case.  I get a nice workout when I do this and I can feel it in my legs and arms.
